Daily News

Daily news is a type of news that is published every day and may be written in many different media outlets, such as newspapers, magazines or even on the internet. It usually includes information about current events that have occurred, as well as other important information such as weather, sports and entertainment. Daily news is intended to inform the public about what has been happening in their community and around the world. It often contains accounts from eyewitnesses, photographs, statistics, recollections, interviews and polls. It can also include opinion pieces that express the personal opinions of writers, and analysis and synthesis that attempt to translate the raw data from an event into information telling the reader what it means and persuading them to concur.

The Yale Daily News is a student-run newspaper that is distributed Monday through Friday during the academic year at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. The paper is the oldest college daily in the United States and is financially and editorially independent of the University. The News has been at the forefront of breaking news and fostering civil discourse in the campus community for more than 130 years, publishing stories on topics ranging from politics to pop culture. Many of the newspaper’s alumni have gone on to careers in journalism and public service, including William F. Buckley, Lan Samantha Chang, John Hersey, Sargent Shriver and Joseph Lieberman.

This is an incomplete list of newspapers in the United States. It consists of major dailies with the largest overall circulation, as measured by Nielsen ratings, and other highly respected weeklies. Many of these papers are part of a larger newspaper chain, such as Tribune Publishing. The New York Daily News, founded in 1919 as the first successful daily tabloid, attracted readers with sensational crime and scandal stories, lurid photographs, and cartoons. The paper carries on this tradition today, though it no longer has the highest total circulation of any newspaper in the United States.

In this fact sheet, circulation data through 2014 is from Editor & Publisher (now owned by the News Media Alliance) and from the trade group that was then known as the Newspaper Association of America (NAA). Beginning in 2013, revenue estimates are based on the Pew Research Center’s analyses of financial statements from publicly traded newspaper companies. This method provides a more accurate picture of overall revenue than does using individual advertiser-paid sales figures.
