The Daily News

Daily News

Daily News is a morning newspaper in New York City that has been in operation since 1919. It was the first tabloid newspaper in the United States, and it had one of the highest circulations during its peak era (2.4 million copies a day as of 2019).

The Daily News also covers a wide range of topics beyond local news. It is one of the world’s best-selling newspapers, and its digital edition is available for a variety of devices. The paper’s coverage is anchored by award-winning writers, columnists and opinion formers, and it features the very best live news, New York exclusives and politics.

Its content includes news from around the globe, in-depth investigative reports, a lively sports section, and opinion columns written by some of the most respected journalists in the country. Its readers enjoy the highest levels of editorial integrity, and it is renowned for its strong ethics policy.

In addition to its print publication, Daily News operates a number of media properties including a television station, a radio network and a website. Its headquarters are a historic building designed by John Mead Howells and Raymond Hood in 1929.

The News’s stance was based on conservative populism, but it has slowly evolved to embrace a more liberal position, and today is characterized as being “flexibly centrist” with a reputation for being a moderately left-leaning alternative to the right-wing New York Post. It is now owned by Chicago-based media company Tronc.

Daily News was founded by Joseph Medill Patterson in 1919 as the Illustrated Daily News. It was later renamed the Daily News in 1921.

At its height, the newspaper was a highly popular tabloid and was known for its sensational coverage of crime, scandal, and violence, lurid photographs, cartoons and other entertainment features. It was a pioneer in using wirephotography and developed a large staff of photographers.

While the Daily News is no longer a tabloid, it is still a leading morning newspaper in New York City and its digital edition is available for a wide variety of devices. Its coverage is anchored by award-winning reporters, columnists and opinion formers, as well as a large team of freelance journalists.
