What is Entertaiment?

A broad category of activities involving some form of play or recreation. It can range from something as simple as a person watching television, to elaborate performances designed for a large audience. Entertainment also includes many activities that are part of ceremonial or religious festivals, sacraments, or political and social celebrations. The word comes from the Medieval Latin intertenere, from the prefix inter meaning “inside” and the suffix tenere, derived from the Indo-European root ten, referring to holding.

Entertainment satisfies the basic human need for pleasure. It can be amusing, humorous or serious. It often strikes the points the brain was evolved to react deeply to, in order to understand the world around it.
