Articles about Entertainment

The word entertainment is derived from the Latin inter tenere, meaning “to hold inside.” It has come to mean something that affords pleasure, diversion, or amusement, such as a performance. It may also be a hospitable provision for the wants and needs of guests, as in a ball or banquet. Entertainment has a vast range of possibilities, from one person choosing a movie from the huge selection available; to a family having a picnic in a park; to a large audience attending a concert or other spectacle. Some forms of entertainment have a serious purpose, such as ceremonial or religious festival or political satire.
